When you’ve built a successful restaurant chain across Maryland and decide to tackle a major waterfront renovation, you need a waste management partner who understands both ongoing operations and big construction projects. That’s exactly what we’ve found working with LoonAsea and the Looney’s Pub family.
Looney’s Pub has been a Maryland favorite since Bill Larney and Steve Litrenta opened their first location in Canton back in 1993. With four established locations in Perry Hall, Bel Air, Maple Lawn, and College Park, they’ve built their reputation on dependable service and community connection. When they purchased the former River Watch Restaurant & Marina and set out to create LoonAsea, their newest waterfront venture in Essex, we knew this was going to be something special.
The renovation was no small task. Located at 207 Nanticoke Road in Essex, the project involved completely rehabilitating the building to accommodate nearly 500 guests. They added two stages for live music, three separate bars including a raw bar and seasonal outdoor bar, and enclosed areas for year-round events. The scope meant serious construction waste, demo debris, and ongoing cleanouts throughout the lengthy process.
What impressed us most about working with the Looney’s team was their commitment to doing things right across all their locations. Whether it’s the day-to-day operations at their established pubs or the complex LoonAsea renovation, they bring the same attention to detail. Bill Larney put it perfectly when he said they wanted to “do it right” rather than rush the LoonAsea opening, even if it meant missing most of the 2023 summer season.
The result speaks for itself. LoonAsea now serves everything from Looney’s classics like wings and cheesesteaks to fresh seafood dishes that take advantage of their waterfront location. With over 150 staff members and live music nearly every night, they’ve created exactly what Essex needed.
We appreciate partners like Looney’s Pub and LoonAsea because they understand that good businesses are built on relationships and reliability. From regular pickups at their established locations to dumpster delivery for their events, they communicate clearly and plan ahead. After more than 30 years of serving Maryland communities, they know what it takes to run dependable operations. That’s the kind of Maryland business we’re proud to work with.
