We’ve been doing dumpster deliveries a long time, and some problems come up more than others. One of the most common?
“Why couldn’t the driver make the drop?”
It usually comes down to something small. So whether it’s your first rental or your fifth, here are five simple tips to help your delivery go smoothly.
1. The Driveway May Be Clear, But the Entrance Matters
Even if your driveway is empty, the truck still needs space to pull in. These vehicles are long and wide. Tight turns make it hard for the driver to get lined up.
What to do:
Leave about 10 feet of open space on each side of the driveway entrance. This helps avoid problems with curbs, mailboxes, or fences.
2. Don’t Park Across from the Driveway
This one catches people by surprise. If someone parks directly across the street, it can block the path we need to back in. Narrow streets make it even harder.
Best move:
On delivery day, don’t park across from your driveway. If possible, ask neighbors not to either.
3. Let the Neighbors Know
If your street is usually crowded with parked cars, it helps to let people know what’s coming. A quick text or mention goes a long way.
Let your neighbors know a dumpster is being delivered and picked up. Ask them to keep the area around your driveway clear.
4. Want It in a Specific Spot? Mark It
If you want the dumpster placed in a certain part of the driveway, mark it clearly. Use a cone, a bucket, or even a lawn chair.
That makes it easy for the driver to drop it right where you want it.
Skip the small stuff. Spray paint or flags can be hard to see. Go with something bold.
5. Check for Power Lines or Tree Branches
Before we arrive, look up. Make sure there’s nothing hanging over the area where the dumpster will be placed. That includes power lines, tree limbs, basketball hoops, and anything else that could block the truck.
If you’re unsure, snap a photo and send it over. We’ll help you figure it out.

Most deliveries go smoothly. These small steps help make sure yours does too. If you have questions or concerns, just give us a call. We’re always happy to talk it through.
